Description
Subzero Hero
Allow me to break the ice and introduce our chilly compadre Subzero Hero. But be warned, the hero turned villain story is a tragic one. A particular incident or perhaps a string of them drive our hero icy and bitter. Like a metaphorical snow ball, throwing everything into question known to be cool and right. Sometimes they still see themselves as the super chill good guy. They still believe that they are the hero in the story. But a bone-chilling string of moments in time can bring about a brisk change in attitude, though.
You either die of frostbite, or live long enough to see yourself become the abominable villain. This is what happens when heck freezes over and the stupid weather is below zero for too long. Even the most chillaxed of heroes can suffer from seasonal depression. This is pretty much the basis of the chilling story of our arctic beauty, Subzero Hero. Our frosty scuba diving buddy, now just broken, old, and cold. Once a hero, now just frozen in time!
Seasonal Depression
Does the endless bitter cold sometimes turn you blue? Got ya feeling like you are below zero all the time? Welcome to life with weird mental disorders on the polar express. As if life isn’t hard enough, you don’t see the sun for long enough and you start to turn frigid. Like an avalanche, refrigerating your energy and making you move at a glacial pace.
The dead of winter has zero chill! Seasonal depression can happen to the best of us. From the North Pole down to the South Pole, and all throughout the Siberia tundra. Let’s just hope it’s temporary seasonal depression (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and nothing more, though. If you keep at it good things can return. Melt away that icy frost and bring back the sun. Warmer days potentially lie ahead!
Our ‘Submerged’ Series of Prints
Since 2009, we’ve had no chill. Constantly developing diver helmet pieces, working through the thunder snow til the bitter end. Sometimes too hot to handle, but other times too cold to hold. ‘Subzero Hero’ is a pretty unique addition to our expanding ‘Submerged Series‘ of diver helmet art & prints. With most pieces inheritably having a water theme. Or at least, loosely water based. I wanted this piece to focus on water once again but in the form of ice. Something that could represent my struggle with seasonal depression living in the Chicagoland area.
