Submerged
Originally created in 2009, โSubmergedโ was the one that started it all. A relentless obsession focused weirdly and squarely on old diver helmets. An odd passion that has continued past a decade and counting now. This might be our most simplistic design but perhaps our deepest.
Submerged: The Series
When I first created โSubmergedโ I had no idea I would make more. It was never my intention to make a series of these. I just liked diver helmets & skeletons. When I designed my next diver helmet print โEmergedโ about a year later I planned on making a trilogy. Figured creating three would be enough. But it just wasnโt. Clearly. Since I have created so many of these, I felt a title for the entire series should be articulated in some way. โSubmergedโ is not only the name of my first diver helmet related printโฆ.but also ALL of them. Thus, the โSubmerged Diver Helmet Print Seriesโ was born. Since 2009 and no signs of slowing down yet with all things submerged.
Diver Helmet Obsession
So whatโs with the obsession with the diver helmets? I think it all starts with being a kid and visiting my Grandmotherโs house. Her home dรฉcor was ALWAYS old nautical. Navy battle ship models, boat & old sailor imagery, but the old fish tank she had in the basement with a diver helmet guy I think it was put it over the edge. Iโve ALWAYS loved and been fascinated with the water, sea life, all things maritime. Loving the mystery of the unknown is part of it as well. Read more.
Art Shows
The early days of selling my art out of a booth once a year is really where the momentum began. The interest and sales of my initial โSubmergedโ print was pretty motivating and certainly helped my obsession. Yeah, I was feelinโ the diver helmet but I wasnโt sure anyone else would care. If it wasnโt for the positive reaction from selling our initial run of โSubmergedโ, the others in the series surely wouldnโt have followed. Or heck, maybe they would have. I have always created each diver helmet piece for me and I don’t think that will ever change.
